PROMOTING ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING AMONG LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY LEARNERS THROUGH MOVIES

English language learning in a non-native environment is always challenge. This especially so among limited proficiency (LEP) learners. Despite having eleven years of instructions primary and secondary school, there are still quite number LEP learners entering the university. may be attributed to lack exposure language, as classroom instruction alone not sufficient for mastery second language. Although widely spoken Malaysia, this does apply all communities, rural areas. In such circumstances, watching movies target can provide necessary exposure, ample amount listening reading which provides comprehensible input essential acquisition. Movies also come with closed captions, only help learner recognize words but enable them look up dictionary. An action research was conducted investigate effectiveness using Foundation course. paper details implementation movie viewing course presents usability appropriateness acquisition skills creating cultural awareness Finally, highlights learners’ responses regarding their experience movies. These invaluable insights into impetus future use ESL classroom. Keywords: Comprehensible input; Cultural awareness; Limited english learners; Language skills; Movies.
